MARTOLEA – Noaptea Dihaniilor
Country : Romania
Style: Folk/Black Metal
Rating: 9.5 / 10
MARTOLEA is the folk/black metal project of the Romanian artist Alin Drimus.
I found out about this project a while ago, but I don’t had the opportunity till now to get acquainted with the music MARTOLEA. And what music it is!
I was won since the first listening by the perfect combination of black metal and folk, combination that often tends to bore me if is not carefully measured.
For this one-man band is not the case, Alin has managed to write an album that is not boring at all, and which thrills you from the first listening.
It thrills you through the dark and gloomy atmosphere, that manages to put in evidence with a low voice and especially by using traditional Romanian instruments, whose songwriting is simply sublime. For the black metal parts I have nothing to complain about, being exactly the way they should be for a great album, finishing this beautiful painting which is “Noaptea Dihaniilor”.
Album production fits perfectly with the music, helping to shape the atmosphere I was talking about earlier. Some traditional instruments have been recorded really into the wild, in the mountains of Bucovina, as Alin said in the interview that I took a little time ago.(MARTOLEA interview here)
Although not a new material, is definitely one of my favorite albums that I’ve listened to this year.
If you have not heard yet the album “Noaptea Dihaniilor”, you have to do it, because you have nothing but to gain, especially since you can still buy it, and even is available as a free download on the band’s official website.
I, for one, look forward to a new material.
